What is URM’s BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection (CDP)?
Our BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection training course provides you with a solid understanding of the key elements of UK data protection (DP) law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018, and the ability to practically apply this knowledge. The course is designed to fully prepare you for the BCS invigilated examination.
There are no mandatory prerequisites for attendance, although a basic understanding of data protection law and key terminology would be useful.
What will be Taught on the Course?
By attending the course, you will receive insights into:
- Legal Background and Positioning
- Principles and Terminology
- Rights of the Data Subject
- Privacy and EC Directive Regulations
- Data Controller and Processor Obligations
- Enforcement, including Powers of the Information Comissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s supervisory authority
- Codes of Conduct and Best Practice Standards, including ICO Guidelines on Privacy Notices, Subject Access Requests, CCTV and DPIAs.
How is the Course Delivered?
URM’s CDP course centres around discussions, exercises, and real-life scenarios, designed to bolster your understanding of some of the more challenging concepts and prepare you for applying them when you return to your work environment. The course is also designed to encourage debate and the sharing of knowledge and experience.
You will have the opportunity to sit mock exams each day in preparation for the BCS administered exam. The 60-minute exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, and the pass mark is set at 26 (65%). The exam can be taken via the BCS remote proctor platform, Questionmark, at your chosen date and time.
We deliver the CPD course on both a public schedule and a ‘closed’ basis for specific organisations. Our public schedule courses are offered both in person and remotely.
Online Instructor-led Training
The remote courses are delivered across 4 mornings from 9am – approximately 12:45pm. Due to the intensity of the course, we have decided to deliver it across mornings only as full days via MS Teams can be challenging. This will enable you to review material or return to work in the afternoon.
The trainer will provide you with some homework, such as a mock exam, review of topics you have covered that day, or an exercise. The following morning, you will have the opportunity to review your homework and ask any questions it has raised.
Classroom Training
URM’s classroom-based CDP courses are held across 3 days, from 9am – approximately 5pm. You will have many opportunities to raise queries and discuss the course with URM’s trainer outside of these hours.
Our public scheduled classroom courses are held at purpose-built training venues and are usually residential.
