Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if an organisation wishes to transfer personal data to a country that does not have ‘adequate’ levels of legislative protection for individuals’ data and privacy rights, it must identify and apply safeguards for those rights. The legislation provides some safeguards and derogations which can legitimise the data transfer, but if none can be relied on, the organisation must perform and retain documented evidence of a transfer risk assessment (TRA). URM’s half-day Data Tranfer Impact Assessment (DTIA) course will address every aspect of performing TRAs, providing you with the ability and confidence to conduct and document your assessments in compliance with the GDPR.
While some foundational knowledge of data protection law and terminology would be beneficial, there are no mandatory prerequisites for attendance.
URM’S COURSE WILL TEACH YOU:
- What a DTIA/TRA is and why it’s important
- The benefits for your organisation and your data subjects
- When DTIAs need to be conducted and who should be involved
- The required decisions and how to overcome internal resistance
- What a TRA template is comprised of
- How to complete and document a DTIA in practice, including:
– The completion of an example template
– Practical hints and tips
– Pitfalls to avoid - When to seek external help.

The online course is also designed to encourage debate and the sharing of knowledge and experience.
