What is the Practitioner’s Certificate in Information Risk Management Course (PCIRM)?
The PCIRM course is designed to provide you with practical experience of each stage of the information risk management process, including conducting risk assessments, evaluating risks and developing risk treatment plans. The course is closely aligned with relevant international standards such as ISO 27001, 27005 and 31000, and is delivered in the context of those standards.
Why Should you Attend?
Delivered by one of URM’s practising risk management consultants, the course will allow you to gain invaluable, hands-on experience of conducting an information security risk assessment, including business impact analysis and threat and vulnerability assessments. As well as this, your trainer will teach you how to evaluate risks, select controls and present results to form the basis of a risk treatment plan.
Once you have completed the course, you will have a clear understanding of the information risk management process, and knowledge and skills which will enable you to significantly contribute to the risk management process at your organisation. Following a successful exam, you will also have a valuable, industry recognised practitioner certificate which can be used within and outside of your organisation to verify your competence in information risk management.
There are no mandatory requirements to attend, although ideally you should have at least 2 years’ experience in information security and risk management, and an understanding of information security standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 27002 and ISO 27005. Attendance of the Certificate in Information Security Management Principles course (or similar) would also be helpful.
How is the Course Delivered?
URM’s PCIRM course is largely oriented around discussions and workshops and is designed to encourage debate and the sharing of knowledge and experience. A BCS sample scenario is used throughout the course, providing a basis for exercises and workshops, as well as daily mock exams which will prepare you for the official exam.
The scenario-based exam is 90-minutes long and is available digitally via the BCS remote proctoring platform. You will answer a range of question types including multiple choice, multiple response, and matching questions. To pass the exam, you will need to achieve 65% (39/60) or more.
We deliver the course as both a public schedule and ‘closed’ training course for specific organisations. Our public scheduled courses can be delivered both in person and online.
Online Instructor-led Training
URM’s online PCIRM course is delivered across 6 mornings (9am – approx. 12:30), as the intensity of the course means full days via MS Teams can be challenging. This will enable you to review material or return to work in the afternoon.
The trainer will provide you with some homework, such as a mock exam, review of topics you have covered that day, additional reading, or an exercise. The following morning, you will have the opportunity to review your homework and ask any questions it has raised.
In-person Training
URM’s classroom-based PCIRM courses are held across 5 days, from 9am – approx. 5pm. You will have many opportunities to raise queries and discuss the course with URM’s trainer outside of these hours.
Our public scheduled classroom courses are held at purpose-built training venues and are usually residential.
